Fort Pierce, Florida: A Place That Supports Healing

When selecting where to go for mental health care, there is a lot to consider. While the quality of care is essential, the surroundings of a treatment center, its pace, its natural beauty, and its sense of safety all influence the healing experience in many ways. At Agape Behavioral Health, we chose Fort Pierce as our location intentionally and not simply because it is where we are rooted. We chose it because it is the type of location that makes healing feel possible.

Fort Pierce is located on Florida’s Treasure Coast, a stretch of coastline running along the Atlantic Ocean in St. Lucie County, and is distinctively slower-paced than other parts of South Florida. On the west side of Fort Pierce lies the Indian River Lagoon, one of the most biologically diverse estuaries in North America, and to the east is the Atlantic Ocean. Water is everywhere in Fort Pierce, and with it comes a kind of natural serenity that promotes reflection, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

The climate in Fort Pierce is warm nearly year-round, meaning all the benefits of the outdoors, such as sunlight exposure, physical activity, fresh air, and a sense of connection to nature, are available to our clients nearly every day. This is important. Research consistently supports the idea that natural environments help reduce stress levels, regulate moods, and support the emotional processing necessary for successful mental health recovery.

A Community Built Around Wellbeing

Fort Pierce has a true community-based identity that larger Florida metropolitan areas often do not have. Downtown Fort Pierce has a walkable waterfront with multiple locally owned restaurants, art galleries, a weekly farmers’ market, and cultural events. The city has also made significant investments in its public spaces to create an urban environment that feels homey and functional rather than transient or impersonal.
Being in a community that feels human and connected matters when recovering from behavioral health struggles because recovery is not only clinical; it’s social, too. The ability to gradually re-engage in various aspects of daily life by taking walks along the waterways and feeling like you are participating in life, not just watching, is an example of the experiences we are preparing our clients for and that Fort Pierce helps offer.
The city is also easily accessible from other parts of the state. Stuart is approximately 15 miles south, Port St. Lucie is only minutes away, Vero Beach is around 30 miles north, and Palm Beach and surrounding communities are only an hour’s drive south, allowing easy access from South Florida for those traveling to see family members or friends.
For those coming from further away, Fort Pierce is served by the Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County International Airport and is conveniently located close to Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike, making transportation to and from Fort Pierce from anywhere in the state easy to manage.

Our Treatment Environment

The Agape Behavioral Health Center was specifically designed to provide a safe space where clients can engage in authentic healing work. Our design goal was to establish an environment that is welcoming but not informal, structured yet not restrictive, and professional yet non-threatening.

We strategically planned our common areas to promote both a sense of community and privacy. Our group therapy spaces were constructed to facilitate open communication among participants. Individual therapy rooms provide privacy for one-on-one sessions that allow for the quietness and confidentiality required for individual work. Designated spaces for our holistic programming, including yoga, mindfulness practices, and artistic expression, reflect our conviction that clients’ bodies and spirits must be nurtured alongside their minds as they progress through treatment.

Client accommodations are intended to provide each guest with a feeling of comfort and privacy during what may be an extremely vulnerable period in their life. Rest is part of recovery, and we take seriously the responsibility of creating a space where real rest is possible.

We maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment throughout the entire facility by incorporating calming elements, abundant natural lighting, and uncluttered spaces free from a hospital or psychiatric treatment feel. We sought to create a safe haven where our guests could find solace, because that is what they deserve.
